Die australischen Extreme Black/Doom Prog Rocker MAMMON'S THRONE legen mit "My Body to the Worms" ein vielschichtiges und facettenreiches Album vor. Auf ihrer dritten Moorleiche fügen sie die Genres Black, Death, Doom, Gothic, Funeral, Progressive und Sludge auf erhabene und eindringliche Weise zusammen. Diese düstere, groovige und basslastige Grundausrichtung, des 2018 gegründeten Quintetts aus Melbourne, wird in beklemmender Couleur zelebriert und neurotisch durch die Stromschnellen bugsiert. Wie ein monumentales, experimentelles und catchiges Initiationsritual. Mit überwiegend langgezogenen Black Metal Vocals, kontrastierendem dunklen Cave-Growling oder melancholischem Klargesang unterlegt, haben die australischen Kellerasseln MAMMON'S THRONE trabende bis galoppierende, immersive bis träumerische Autumn-Mood-Soundkulissen aus dem Erdreich gestampft. In diesem Schmelztiegel der Finsternis treffen Dramaturgie, Selbsterkenntnis und Genresynkretismen in vorzüglicher Machart aufeinander.
"My Body to the Worms" erinnert mich mit seinen Horror-Elementen an den Wahnsinn alter Schwarzweiß-Horrorstummfilme à la "Nosferatu", "Der Golem" oder "Der Untergang des Hauses Usher". Innerhalb der homogenen, differenzierten und erdigen Produktion, des gefräßigen Black Doom Rock Monsters "My Body to the Worms" gilt es so einiges zu entdecken. Allerdings hätte man die Songs in ihrer Gesamtheit gerne etwas breitgefächerter aufstellen können. Diese Konformität geht im Falle MAMMON'S THRONE 3.0 durchaus ein wenig zu Lasten der Individualität. Zieht man die beiden Interludien "Clandestine Unholy Rites" und "At the Threshold of Eternity" von den insgesamt sieben Titeln ab, kommt man auf fünf neue Tracks, die zum Teil in Längen von weit über acht Minuten daherkommen. Das 42:24 Minuten rotierende "My Body to the Worms" wurde von den Aussies selbst produziert, von Lead Gitarrist Amesh Perera im Mysteriis Audio Studio abgemischt und im Studio Fredman zu Göteborg von Fredrik Nordström (ARCH ENEMY, AT THE GATES, OPETH, THE CROWN) gemastert. This is Extreme Doom Metal par excellence!

Australian extreme black/doom prog rockers MAMMON'S THRONE present a multi-layered and multifaceted album with “My Body to the Worms”. On their third release, they combine the genres of black, death, doom, gothic, funeral, progressive, and sludge in a sublime and haunting way. This dark, groovy, and bass-heavy foundation of the Melbourne-based quintet, founded in 2018, is celebrated in an oppressive tone and neurotically pushed through the rapids. Like a monumental, experimental, and catchy initiation ritual. With predominantly drawn-out black metal vocals, contrasting dark cave growling or melancholic clean vocals, the Australian basement dwellers MAMMON'S THRONE have stamped out trotting to galloping, immersive to dreamy autumn mood soundscapes from the earth. In this melting pot of darkness, dramaturgy, self-awareness, and genre syncretism come together in an exquisite blend.
With its horror elements, “My Body to the Worms” reminds me of the madness of old black-and-white silent horror films such as “Nosferatu”, “The Golem”, and “The Fall of the House of Usher”. There is a lot to discover within the homogeneous, differentiated, and earthy production of the voracious black doom rock monster “My Body to the Worms”. However, it would have been nice if the songs as a whole had been a little more diverse. In the case of MAMMON'S THRONE 3.0, this conformity comes at the expense of individuality. If you subtract the two interludes “Clandestine Unholy Rites” and “At the Threshold of Eternity” from the total of seven tracks, you are left with five new tracks, some of which are well over eight minutes long. The 42:24 minute “My Body to the Worms” was produced by the Aussies themselves, mixed by lead guitarist Amesh Perera at Mysteriis Audio Studio, and mastered at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg by Fredrik Nordström (ARCH ENEMY, AT THE GATES, OPETH, THE CROWN). This is extreme doom metal par excellence!
